Infection control in wound care

15 February 2021 15:30 - 16:30

Wound infections are costly to patients and healthcare providers alike. They can cause increased pain, exudate and odour effecting negatively on patient’s quality of life. They can delay wound healing and turn acute wounds into chronic ones, significantly increasing the treatment duration and hence associated costs. Effective wound management and the prevention of wound infection are key to wound healing and prevention of chronic, hard to heal wounds. In this session we will use the latest evidence and best practice guidelines to answer the following questions:

  • What is a wound infection?
  • Who is at risk?
  • How can I prevent a wound getting infected?
  • How can I tell if a wound has a microbial problem?
  • How do I treat a wound that is infected?
